Thermoelectric Waste Energy Recovery System

Power Conditioning Subsystem

Research funded in part by Visteon and BSST

The purpose of the power conditioning subsystem is to convert power generated by a thermoelectric generator to conditioned power usable by a vehicle electrical sysetm. The thermoelectric generator receives energy gathered from the engine exhaust system.

Currently the power stage team is examining efficiencies of various DC-DC converter circuit topologies through simulation, and the microcontroller team is evaluating maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms and methods of battery charging.
